"Your worst day at the beach, still beats your best day anywhere else"
Open water has always been a passion of Bobby Brewer's, from swimming to surfing, salt water flows through his veins. Lenny Krayzelburg was born in Odessa, the Soviet Union. After spending his boyhood years in what is now the Ukraine, his family immigrated to the United States to escape Soviet Jewish anti Semitism and the call of the Soviet army, settling in a Soviet Jewish enclave in Los Angeles. Lenny's story is the ultimate success story: the immigrant who came to a new land, worked hard, overcame obstacles and found exactly what he hoped to find, the American Dream
Krayzelburg is a four-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming. He won his first gold medals in each of the three events he swam at the 2000 Olympic Games––100-Meter Backstroke, 200-Meter Backstroke and 4×100-Meter Medley Relay. He established new Olympic records in the 100m—53.72, and 200m—1:56.76. And, his lead leg set the pace for the 400m Relay gold medal victory that set a new World record––3:33.73.
In 2005 after his swimming career was finished, Krayzelburg ventured into a new venture as a business owner starting Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy, a learn to swim program for children. His passion for connecting people with the water was a driving force behind joining the Open Water Planet team; The opportunity to encourage swimmers to embrace the challenges that come in an open water environment, rather than shy away from them. For Lenny it wasn't just a business opportunity, but a chance to help build a community of swimmers that aren't afraid to charge forward knowing they can overcome any obstacles that come across their path.
